How It All Began
From a bold idea in the hills of Kodaikanal to a nationally recognized institution — the journey of WASH Institute is one of purpose, persistence, and public service.
WASH Institute was established in 2008 as a non-governmental organization with a singular mission: to bridge the vast gap between the demand and supply of skilled WASH professionals in India. Nestled in Kodaikanal, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu, the institute was born from the recognition that clean water and sanitation systems are only as strong as the people who operate and maintain them.
Over the years, WASHi has grown from a small training centre into a full-fledged academic institution, now affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University and approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu under GO.MS.NO.32 H&FW. Our programs blend rigorous academics with immersive field exposure, ensuring graduates are truly job-ready.
Supported by global development partners including USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and recognized as a National Key Resource Centre by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, WASHi stands as a premier institution in public health education.
